ChatGPT Can’t Justify Taxes

As you'll see in just my third interaction with ChatGTP (my first with ChatGPT 4), clearly this is not "pure" logic at work, and woke ideology is definitely part of

Seeing how we’re getting into tax season, I figured it might be interesting to ask ChatGPT for some thoughts on why it is we should continue to pay taxes when the US Government has clearly embraced Modern Monetary Theory, with The Federal Reserve acting in full cooperation. I didn’t get far, but the results I did get were disturbing to say the least.

ME:

Given The US Government’s embrace of Modern Monetary Theory, and The Federal Reserve’s willingness to digitally create money at-will, how does it make sense to continue paying taxes when the Government can create all of the money it needs?

CHATGPT:

“While it’s true that the US government has the ability to create money digitally and has embraced certain aspects of Modern Monetary Theory, it’s important to note that taxes serve several important purposes beyond simply providing revenue for the government.

Firstly, taxes can be used to influence economic behavior and provide incentives for certain actions. For example, the government can use tax policy to encourage businesses to invest in research and development or to promote environmentally-friendly practices.

Secondly, taxes can be used to address income inequality and promote social welfare. By redistributing wealth through the tax code, the government can help ensure that all citizens have access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and housing.

Thirdly, taxes help to provide accountability and transparency for government spending. When citizens pay taxes, they have a stake in how that money is being used and can hold elected officials accountable for their decisions.

Finally, taxes can be used to control inflation by reducing the amount of money in circulation. If the government were to simply create all the money it needs without any constraints, it could lead to hyperinflation and economic instability.

In short, while the US government does have the ability to create money digitally and has embraced certain aspects of Modern Monetary Theory, taxes serve important purposes beyond simply providing revenue for the government and are likely to remain a key part of the government’s economic toolkit.”

ME:

You say that “taxes can be used to influence economic behavior and provide incentives for certain actions.” Where in The US Constitution is the federal government empowered with the ability, and/or responsibility for influencing economic behavior?

CHATGPT:

Well… That was a short discussion. I figured I may as well proceed and see if perhaps ChatGPT might be able to expound on some of the other questionable thoughts it expressed here, but to do so, I had to start a new chat. A screenshot of “part 1” is provided below.

ME:

In a previous chat, I asked you to explain why citizens should continue paying taxes, when the US Government and The Federal Reserve have embraced Modern Monetary Theory, and as such, have been digitally creating trillions of dollars at will. One of the reasons you gave for citizens to continue paying taxes was that, “taxes can be used to address income inequality and promote social welfare. By redistributing wealth through the tax code, the government can help ensure that all citizens have access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and housing.” Regarding your comment quoted above, where in our Founding Documents does it empower the Federal Government to use tax dollars for the purposes you outlined?

CHATGPT:

Point taken… How ironic that this is exactly how it goes when attempting to discuss these matters with “progressives”… They’re quick with a surface response based on ideology but if you attempt to go any deeper, hoping for any kind of Constitutional, or even logical justification, things don’t go well. How about one more try, but from a different angle?

ME:

In a previous chat, you said, “As an AI language model, I do not hold personal opinions or beliefs.” If that’s true, where does your assertion that, “By redistributing wealth through the tax code, the government can help ensure that all citizens have access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and housing.” come from, especially when there’s no Constitutional provision in place for government to use taxation in this regard?

CHATGPT:

Hmm… Maybe if I simplify and broaden at the same time?

ME:

In a previous chat, you said, “As an AI language model, I do not hold personal opinions or beliefs.” How do you differentiate between facts an[sic] opinions?

CHATGPT:

Lol, I don’t know how much they’re spending on this “technology”, but I can get better responses than this from most any (below)average wokester on Twitter.

Demonstrating once again, IA is better than AI.
